The Moravian Philharmonic after 1987
Over the past twenty-five years, the Moravian Philharmonic has had many excellent chief conductors who have determined the artistic direction of this respected Olomouc institution. Stanislav Macura, Jiří Mikula, the first foreign chief conductor Jin Wang, František Preisler Jr. and the present chief conductor Petr Vronský have brought us interesting performances of considerable merit, which especially after November 1989 have aroused great public interest. In Olomouc several outstanding local and international artists have appeared, performing, since 2001 in the newly renovated Reduta concert hall, the reconstruction of which has won Olomouc a first-class acoustic space. Under the leadership of director Vladislav Kvapil, the Moravian Philharmonic has created several concert subscription series and programs, covering a broad range of music-making in order to reach as many listeners as possible. The orchestra has completed several concert tours in Europe and Asia too, collaborated with leading conductors and gained valuable experience. Today, the Moravian Philharmonic holds a leading position among Czech orchestras as it seeks to increase the artistic quality of its concerts. To this end, it has consolidated and artistically balanced its membership, maintaining a policy of engaging young concert performers.
