Profesi hudebního historika z Moravy a na Moravě Jiří Sehnal získal usilovnou výzkumnou prací v terénu a v hudebních centrech. Její výsledky odborně dokumentoval a v obrovském množství studií vydal v regionálních i odborných časopisech. Věnoval se dějinám hudby na Moravě, převážně barokní doby, k nimž neustále přibývala další témata, např. dílo Adama Michny z Otradovic, varhaníci a varhanáři aj. Jeho bibliografie je rozdělena do mnoha skupin: Chrámová hudba obecně, Hymnologie, Hudba duchovních řádů, Biskupské kapely v Kroměříži, Varhaníci a varhanáři, Světská hudba obecně, Kapely světské šlechty, Regionální hudební vlastivěda.

Jiří Sehnal - a Music Historian of Moravia, Coming from Moravia
The professional reputation of the music historian of Moravia, Jiří Sehnal, a native of Moravia, was acquired by his large-scale research done in the field as well as in music centres. The findings are documented with expertise in innumerable studies published in regional and professional journals. He was interested in the history of music in Moravia, notably from the Baroque era, but gradually he adopted other topics, such as the work of Adam Michna of Otradovice, or Organists and organ builders. His bibliography is comprised of the following sections: Sacred music in general, Hymnology, Music of religious orders, Episcopal kapelle in Kroměříž, Organists and organ builders, Secular music in general, Ensembles in the service of secular nobility, Study of regional music.
