MUSIC IN THE AESTHETIC COMPENDIA OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY IN SLOVAKIA
The intention of my article is to provide analysis of two Latin aesthetic compendia from the first half of the 19th century - the Compendium aestheticae (Košice 1826) by Michal Greguss and the Isagoge in eruditionem aestheticam (Bratislava 1842) by Tobias Gottfried Schröer. Both were written as teaching texts for students of higher courses at Protestant grammar schools or so-called lycei and both also show a significant influence of German philosophy and aesthetics. The aesthetic concept by Greguss follows up especially the aesthetic base of F. Bouterwek, W. T. Krug and I. Kant and presents mainly a philosophical postulate of the period of Classicism. The work by T. G. Schröer is more original and it reflects new problem areas - by which he came closer to the feelings-aesthetics of the Romantic period. Schröer developed especially the ideas of I. Kant, J. W. von Goethe, F. Schiller, G. W. F. Hegel. The mentioned compendia presented the summarised knowledge about Aesthetics as a scientific field with the effort to classify it systematically. Those compendia also had eucational and instructional objectives and the complement of this intention is also their most important contribution.
